A haptic interface designed for a self-driving car. Stewart II enables a haptic dialogue between car and driver, providing the driver with high-level control over the autonomous vehicle. The prototype is fully interactive and is being used for user research and testing in a simulator study. The final objective is to design a haptic language that enables intuitive communication between man and machine for a satisfying driving experience.

The flaps allow to store it upright without scratching the housing. It is portable and also easy to access and control with any Wi-Fi enabled device running a web-browser. We attached a camera to the safety lid. It provides an accurate preview of the working area including the object you have placed there. Dragging a design into the desired position is now super easy. A full metal safety housing closed with safety glass lid assures secure operation.

The whole approach in the design process was to remove the perceptual barriers from the user’s sight, such as cables, motors and other technical elements. By removing these items, Formon Core is psychologically perceived as simple and easy to use and consequentially understood on how it works. The box like appearance resembles a magic box which opens upwards and reveals the printed object. As opposed to the competitors in the market, Formon Core doesn’t look like a factory machine that is not home or office friendly.
